Two children in an autumnal setting

Five reasons a sitter shoot is a great first-year milestone

A sitter photo shoot isn’t as well known as its newborn relative, but it is a fantastic milestone to capture with your little one, especially if Covid meant you couldn’t get your newborn captures.

They’re growing up but still a baby

Babies usually master sitting unaided around 6-7 months old (although they’re all different) and so they will have changed greatly from the tiny newborn bundle. They have their own little curious personality, ready to shine.

But at the same time, they’re still only half a year old. Once they get mobile, they won’t seem like it anymore, so there’s a short window to capture this fun time of life.

A lot happens between birth and birthday

Many parents will opt for a newborn photo shoot, followed by, say, a cake smash for their little’s first birthday. But a lot happens in that time.

When looking back, wouldn’t it be wonderful to see that time broken down? To see their little personality beginning to grow and how they continue to come into themselves for their birthday.

Sitter shoots are totally underrated milestone captures!

You can mix it up

Being a sitting shoot doesn’t limit your photographs to purely sitting. If your baby will tolerate it, there are some beautiful captures to be had on tummy time and on their backs, particularly cute if they’ve found their toes!

They can also use a wider range of props without being wrapped up, and they’ll probably have a lot of fun in it too!

They’re so expressive

By this age, babies are just full of expressions - their smiles, laughs, funny noises as well as a range of amusing faces. As sweet as sleeping shots are, you really can’t beat your baby smiling, eyes bright.

This makes for a much more exciting photo shoot for mum and dad too, who may have sat through hours of soothing and posing for their newborn shoot.

You’re done in no time

As we’ve just touched on, sitter shoots take no time - usually between 30 - 45 minutes, ensuring baby doesn’t get bored, grumpy or hungry, and mum and dad don’t fall asleep!

They’re also low cost, making them a great investment towards recording your little one’s first milestones. Our shoots cost just £40 and include two setups.
